Golf Classic nets $19K for academic programs

The 2013 Pinewood Prep Golf Classic, presented by BB&T, netted nearly $19,000 to support technology, equipment and resources for the Summerville independent institution.

More than thirty teams and 130 golfers competed in the 15th annual tournament held at Legend Oaks Golf Club. This year’s tournament kept players energized with snacks, beverages and games on the course, a complimentary breakfast and an awards luncheon afterwards.

Teams competed for six prize packages.

The team of Ward Katsanis, Mark Bowers, John Lamar and Kevin Thompson won the first-place prize, golf for four at the Inn at Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton.

The team of Mike Barnhill, Nick Barnhill, Brooks Varn and Ben Sloane placed second.

The team of Jim Chickarello, Doug Chickarello, Jeff Chickarello and JB Bradley placed third. The team of Ryan Templeton, Seth Davis, Matt Schneider and Austin Rogers placed fourth. The team of Duncan Mcgoogan, Pete McLaughlin, Sam Zingales and Jason Wall placed fifth. The team of Jairy Hunter, David Smoak, Bob Merryman and Charles Smoak placed sixth.

Jeff Chickarello won the Male Longest Drive Contest and Michaela McAuley won the Female Longest Drive Contest. Brooks Varn claimed the Closest to the Pin honor.

The Pinewood Prep Golf Classic supports student learning at Summerville’s premier independent institution. This year’s proceeds will fund technology, athletic equipment, science hardware and the school’s library. To learn more, visit www.pinewoodprep.com.
