The Green Wave baseball team survived a seventh-inning Swamp Fox rally Wednesday to remain perfect in region play.

Summerville held on for a 4-3 victory at home to improve to 9-2 with a 4-0 mark in Region 8-AAAA. Ashley Ridge fell to 10-2, 3-1.

Green Wave sophomore Sawyer Bridges only allowed three hits and no runs in five-plus innings on the hill to improve his pitching record to 4-0. He struck out four batters, but also walked four and hit two.

Ashley Ridge starter Carson Walls also pitched five-plus innings in taking the loss. Walls (5-1) only walked three and struck out five, but surrendered nine hits.

Summervilleís Johnston McCurry was 3 for 4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. The shortstop also put an end to two Swamp Fox turns at bat with a pair of diving catches with runners on base.

Bridges was 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI and TJ Hopkins was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored.

Aaron Miller led the Swamp Foxes, going 3 for 4 with a run scored. Jason Miller reached base three times and Bradley McLaughlin had a homerun.

Jack Bahen and Hopkins singled in the bottom of the third inning and McCurry drove them in with a base hit for a 2-0 Summerville lead.

McCurry opened the bottom of the fifth with a single and stole second. Zach Mosay hit a grounder that was too hot for the Ashley Ridge shortstop and before the ball was fielded McCurry dashed home for a three-run Green Wave lead. Mosay moved around on a double by Charlie Fessler and then scored on a hit by Bridges for a 4-0 score.

But the Swamp Foxes didnít give up.

McLaughlin entered the game in the top of the seventh and sent a solo homer over the left-field fence. After a strikeout, Josh Litchfield and Aaron Miller singled and Rusty Grayson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jason Miller received a base on balls that pushed Litchfield home and Aaron Miller scored on a sacrifice fly by Hunter Grover.

The Swamp Foxes then came within inches of tying the game, but Summerville reliever Billy Peatross caught a hard line drive Nick Rowell hit straight back to the pitcherís mound for the final out of the game.

Summerville hosts Fort Dorchester Friday while Ashley Ridge travels to Colleton County.
