Dorchester Two baseball teams swept the Hanahan Invitational Tournament championship games Thursday.

Summerville claimed the 2014 varsity HIT championship with a 7-2 victory over Wando in the title game held at Hanahan High School.

Wando took a 2-1 lead in the third inning, but the Green Wave scored 3 runs the next inning. Summerville then added a run in the fifth and 2 runs in the seventh.

J.W. Eckley earned the pitching win after throwing four innings. Kyle Smith pitched two innings for Summerville and Johnston McCurry closed the game out for the Wave.

McCurry, who bolstered his on-base percentage by reaching three times in the championship game, was named the 2014 HIT Most Valuable Player.

Prior to that game, Ashley Ridge won the JV HIT championship with a 7-4 win over West Ashley.

Grant Melton pitched the first four innings for the Swamp Foxes and De’ondre Smith closed the game out on the hill. Justin Peterson had a homerun for Ashley Ridge and had a 3-run homer in the fifth negated because he didn’t touch second base on his way around the base path.

This years’ varsity tournament included more than 30 teams including several teams from out of state. The JV tournament included 16 teams that are primarily from South Carolina.
