Magistrate orders alleged gambling machines destroyed

  • Wednesday, July 30, 2014

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division seized five machines from a local bar that it contends are illegal gambling machines.

The machines are slated for destruction unless the owner can successfully appeal the destruction notice.

According to SLED, five “Pot of Gold” machines were seized July 22 from Chub & Tubbs Tavern on Dorchester Road.

By state law, if a law enforcement officer sees illegal gambling machines, they’re to be immediately seized and taken to a local magistrate.

In this case a Summerville magistrate received the machines and agreed they were illegal slot machines.

Chub & Tubbs has 15 days from the July 23 order of destruction to appeal.

The order notes that SLED seized $480 from the machines.

Chub & Tubbs owner wasn’t available Monday afternoon to comment.
