Dejon Wilkinson (l) had three receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown Friday.
Summerville completed a clean sweep through Region 8-AAAA on Friday with a 48–20 victory over Colleton County.

With the win, the Green Wave improved its record to 10-1 with a 4-0 mark in region. It is the eighth consecutive win for Summerville, which suffered its only loss of the season on Sept. 11 at Irmo.

The victory gives Summerville outright ownership of the region title. Colleton fell to 3-8 and 1-3 in region play.

“At the start, we didn’t play as well as we have and Colleton really got after us,” Summerville coach John McKissick said. “We couldn’t get outside on them, but then we settled down and played pretty good. On defense, we put pretty good pressure on them and it’s a good thing because if they had been able to pass more things could have been different.”

The game began with a pair of scores in the first four and ½ minutes. Colleton drove 80 yards to score on the opening possession. Eric Kirkland Jr. capped the drive with a 19-yard run into the end zone.

Summerville’s Cody Reese then returned the ensuing kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown. Summerville added a 21-yard TD pass to Dejon Wilkinson for a 13-6 lead entering the second quarter.

De’Angelo Henderson added a pair of TDs for the Wave in the second quarter,  the first on a 26-yard run and the second on a 40-yard pass. Summerville also scored on a 15-yard pass to Reese with 26 seconds remaining in the half to take a 34-6 lead into the locker room.

Wave QB Dalton Saunders completed 5-of-8 pass attempts for 133 yards in the first half. He ended up 6-for-16 for154 yards.

The third quarter featured a pair on interceptions returned for touchdowns. Summerville’s Blaine Galloway returned one 15 yards for a score and Kalin Johnson returned one 92 yards for Colleton.

The final quarter was mostly for the backup players, but Colleton did score with a 72-yard pass from Kevin Adams to Willie Grant Jr.

Summerville is the team that everyone loves to hate. Why? Because Summerville is the team that everyone strives to beat. Most can't, so they have to resort to doing the one thing they do best, bad mouthing them on a message board.
