Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet says he is awaiting toxicology results to determine exactly what killed a 67-year-old man who lost his life in a weekend car wreck.
Charles William Scott, 67, of 115 Corrientes Ct., was traveling west on Old Orangeburg Road near Antebellum Way early Saturday night when his 2001 Dodge extended cab pick-up truck went off the left side of the roadway and struck a telephone pole, Nisbet said.
Scott was pronounced dead on the scene not long after the wreck occurred — about 5:50 p.m. He was wearing his seatbelt, the Highway Patrol reported.
Scott didn’t appear to have sustained any life threatening injuries, Nisbet noted.
“It was probably (the result of) a medical condition but we will wait on the toxicology results before making a ruling,” Nisbet said.
Witnesses told Nisbet that Scott never applied his brakes. The truck split the telephone pole in half upon striking it.
The collision, which involved no other vehicles, took place “right around the corner” from Scott’s house, Nisbet said.
