Austin Shepard, Pinewood 10th grader, returns to school this year after having spent his summer at Cambridge University studying as part of the Cambridge Prep Experience.
He attended classes in Global Business and International Espionage at Peterhouse College, the oldest college in Cambridge.
The experience included living in rooms at Peterhouse and taking meals in the college Dining Hall.
Field trips included days in Canterbury and London, and activities including learning to punt on the river Cam.
The Cambridge Prep Experience is a program for students graduating 8th and 9th grades that offers a wide array of academic, science and arts courses, at Cambridge University. Superb faculty, small-group teaching, and active learning are combined with a unique program of cultural and historic experiences.
Each of the prep programs is led by a director who represents the very best in education. The Cambridge Prep Experience is directed by Ryan Pagotto, a career history teacher and Dean of Admissions at Blair Academy. The students come from every kind of school –public, private, and parochial – and every kind of background, including all 50 states, several provinces of Canada, and over 20 other countries.
These programs present a potentially life-changing opportunity for students at a crucial age. The combination of active learning, imaginative teaching, and cultural enrichment, all set in such ancient centers of learning, takes students to new levels of performance and passion for their subjects.
Austin and his father also took a side trip to Versailles prior to the start of classes.
