A love for old cars apparently knows no boundaries. Yvonne L. Rousseau grew up around them and today she captures their unique beauty in her “up close” acrylic paintings. “My love for older cars started in childhood. I was intrigued by the shapes and controls on the dashboard, the shiny chrome detailing, and the little sculptures riding proudly on the hoods,” Rousseau says. Rousseau, Art Central Gallery’s Artist of the Month, has created a series of paintings that pay tribute to the cars of old. There’s a slow and bulky 1940’s Ford which contrasts nicely with the speedy and curvy Corvette. And there are the stately and heavily ornamented MG, and the sassy and flashy 1948 Chevy? Each of her classic subjects holds center stage against the muted and contrasting palette of her out-of-focus backgrounds. Classic Treasures are on display during September at Art Central Gallery, 130 Central Avenue, Summerville, SC. For more information, call Art Central Gallery at 843-871-0297.
