Firearms safety courses offered

Learn how to use a gun safely and meet requirements for the concealed weapons permit with continuing education courses at Trident Technical College.
    The Concealed Weapons Permit – Firearms Safety course, which is certified by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, consists of eight hours in the classroom and two hours of hands-on practice on the range. It provides the training necessary for concealed weapon permit applicants. Participants receive help completing the application and fingerprinting cards, and TTC will submit your application to SLED. The course meets 6-10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 and Thursday, Oct. 16 at the Continuing Education Center (Bldg. 910) on TTC’s Main Campus, 2001 Mabeline Road, North Charleston. Range practice will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17. Cost is $150. Participants should not bring weapons and ammunition to the classroom sessions. A weapon and 50 rounds of ammunition are required for the range session.
    Handgun Basics is designed for individuals who need introductory instruction about handguns and South Carolina laws. It meets 6-10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 and Thursday, Oct. 16. Cost is $55. Range time is not included. The course meets at TTC’s Main Campus in North Charleston.
