Woodland routed the Garrett Tech football team last Friday, handing the Falcons a 62-0 loss on their home field. The Wolverines pushed their record to 4-3 on the year with the impressive performance. Garrett fumbled the opening kickoff and the Wolverines quickly put points on the board when Robert Smith scored one of his three rushing touchdowns of the opening quarter on a 5-yard scamper. The QB then threw to Nagui Wright for the two-point conversion for an 8-0 Woodland lead. On Garrett’s ensuing possession, Woodland’s Martin Connelly recovered another fumble to set up a 12-yard TD run by Smith. Wright followed by running in the two-point conversion play. After Garrett was forced to punt on their next possession, Woodland drove 65 yards in four plays to score. Smith capped the short drive with a 53-yard run into the end zone for a 22-0 lead after the conversion attempt failed. In the second quarter it continued to be all Woodland as Smith hit Marquis Carson for a 57-yard touchdown reception, Dekendal Carn for a 30-yard TD play and Carson again for a 78-yard TD play. The Wolverines took a 44-0 lead into the half. A blocked punt by Kijuan Edwards in the second half set up another Woodland score. Smith took advantage of the turnover by connecting with Gabriel Brown for a 20-yard TD. Woodland’s next possession was a result of a fumble recovery by defensive end Sherrick Martino. After the fumble, Smith threw his fifth touchdown pass of the night – a 25-yard strike to Carn. Martin Connelly replaced the QB in the third quarter and threw his own touchdown pass to Dondrell Folk for the 62-0 final. Smith was 11-for-15 passing for 282 yards. He also ran nine times for 112 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Martino, Nick Johnson, David Creel and M.T. Inabinett led the way as the Wolverines held Garrett to 1 rushing yard and 19 passing yards on the night. Tonight’s AA games Tonight, Woodland hosts Bishop England in a key Region 6-AA game.
