Scarrit Dempsey honored as Civilian of the Year

Stephanie Scarritt Dempsey was recently honored at Incirlik Air Base in Incirlik, Turkey as Civilian of the Year 2008. Her work as a School Liaison Officer working for the U.S. Air Force was lauded as exemplary.
She and her husband Kevin Dempsey, a Foreign Service officer specializing in Systems Analysis for the Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, have a home in Summerville. They departed Summerville in 2005 for a three-year assignment to Ankara. They have recently relocated to Bogota, Colombia. Scarritt Dempsey was a teacher for several years at Summerville Catholic School and also taught English with the First Steps program of Charleston.
Their two sons, Quinn and Dylan Dempsey, accompany them as college students studying Spanish in an immersion program at Javeriana University. Scarritt Dempsey received her M.A. in Engish as a Second Language from College of Charleston in 2006. The family plans to return to Summerville and the Charleston area to retire.
