Pinewood Preparatory School will proudly honor our armed forces, remember those to have made the ultimate sacrifice and celebrate the spirit of freedom. Students along side community and faculty members will perform selections from the play, “We Will Remember,” assuming the voices of veterans from different wars. There will also be the traditional reading of the names of South Carolina veterans who have given their lives in the recent wars. The event will culminate with the unveiling and dedication of the new statue of Winston Churchill in the Frances Suddeth Josephson Liberty Garden. Martin Gallery has procured the artwork for Liberty Garden, which is a sculptural tribute to those who have shown political and social courage, focusing on world leaders in the constant struggles for peace and freedom. The Garden is dedicated to local Summerville hero, Frances Suddeth Josephson, who showed courage when she defied gender stereotypes to become a WWII code breaker. Her work helped end the war and save thousands of lives. Liberty Gardens celebrates the local and the distant, the domestic and the international.?Oregon artist, Kris Parmele, is working to sculpt a series of six busts, and also a portrait of Frances Suddeth Josephson, all to be installed in Liberty Garden. To date she has completed the renderings of Mother Teresa and Winston Churchill. Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama, Gandhi and Albert Einstein are all planned to be a part of the final installation. Each sculpture will be cast in bronze in a limited edition of 12. The Consul-General from the British Consulate-General, Atlanta will also be sending a statement that will be read at the ceremony and will be donating a copy of the book, "Never Give In! The best of Winston Churchill's Speeches," for the Pinewood library.
