The 15th Anniversary Harvest for Habitat was a fun, elegant, entertaining event at the magnificent Old Farmhouse at “The Ponds” on Hwy 17A. More than 200 guests enjoyed the following a Live Auction, auctioneer Mark Smith and sidekick Lauree Bradway presiding. There was also a Silent Auction with something for everyone.
The Tropicools and jazz from two Charleston Southern University students entertained the guests who feasted on a delicious array of heavy hors d’oeuvres: marinated shrimp served in a spectacular ice carving, roast beef, fresh fruit and a giant chocolate cake celebrating the Habitat affiliate’s 15th birthday.
The Old Farmhouse, newly renovated, was just one third of the venue for the anniversary of Dorchester Habitat for Humanity. A giant tent stretched from the house to the outdoor pavilion.
Bidding was lively on auction items such as vacation packages to Folly Beach and Sugar Mountain, a Wurlitzer piano, diamond earrings, a modeling course from Millie Lewis, a $1000 gift certificate to Dean & Reagin Orthodontics, and beauty packages plus artwork, furniture, and decorative items. For the third year in a row, the ever-popular “Habitat Hot Seats” brought in the cash. These are chairs donated to the Habitat ReStore, taken by creative people in the area ho transform them into works of art.
“We raised funds to help build three ‘Harvest Homes’ on N. Palmetto Street in Summerville,” explains Donna Cartwright, Development and Communications Manager. “This is a fun way to support a great cause and go home with something to call your own. Best of all, the lives of hardworking families will be changed by this Harvest event.” All proceeds go to build houses and hope for people in need.
