Pinewood to host world premiere on Friday
[Subheading]
Thursday, December 04, 2008

On Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., the Pinewood middle school drama students will unveil the first ever performance of “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza,” which is a farce of Homer’s “Illiad” as told by its target audience of eight-year-old boys. This is a brand new play by Don Zolidis, who will be in attendance to witness the first performance ever of his new show. After Pinewood’s performance it will be available worldwide via Playscripts.com, one of the worlds leading script-publishing houses.
Also as part of this Night of One Acts, the Pinewood Drama I class will perform “Check, Please,” which is a comedic sketch that proves dating can be hard, especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomaniac, or your grandmother's bridge partner or a mime. “Check Please” follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse - until they do. To top off this evening of humor, the Pinewood Play Pro class will take to the stage with “S.P.A.R,” where Renata and Maria have questions about their future. But when Renata convinces Maria to hold a séance, the girls get more than they bargained for when they conjure up a mysterious figure that answers their questions but also tells them how he knows the answers: they're fictional. Renata and Maria are characters in “S.P.A.R.,” a play written by the mysterious man. He proves he's their maker by predicting the future, twisting reality and finally showing them the audience. Renata is not happy about being in “S.P.A.R.” The play becomes a contest of wills between author and character. But it's not a fair fight: after all, he has the script. And when Renata tries to enlist the audience's help, the author proves that the audience is fictional as well!
The Night of One Acts is presented in Freedom Hall on the Pinewood campus. Admission is $5 per person and all plays are family friendly.
