Josephine Palma “Jo” Ciottoni, 87, of Summerville died peacefully Wednesday morning, July 21, 2010 at the Village of Summerville. For 42 years she was the devoted wife of the late Peter Joseph Ciottoni whom she followed around the world to serve as an Army officer’s wife.
Jo was born March 20, 1923 in Dumont, New Jersey, daughter of the late Anthony Gargia and Mary DeLorenzo Gargia. She was a wonderful seamstress, loved animals and was a fantastic cook. Her bright smile, lilting laugh and always positive outlook were a joy to all she encountered. She was an active member of St. Theresa Catholic Church for 25 years where she was a member of the Women’s Guild.
Surviving are: one daughter: Kathleen “Kay” Spahn (and husband Albert) of Summerville, two granddaughters: Teresa Belote of Greensboro, North Carolina and Laura Spahn of Alexandria, Virginia and one sister: Marie Powell of West New York, New Jersey. She was predeceased by five sisters and one brother.
Funeral Mass was held Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church. Rite of Committal with Final Commendation followed at Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville. Friends attended a visitation at the church from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday evening with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: St. Theresa the Little Flower Catholic Church, 11001 Dorchester Road, Summerville, SC 29485, the Frances R.
