Wave lockers burglarized during game
Steals weren’t confined to the basketball court Dec. 3 at Summerville High School, a police report shows.
While the Green Wave boys’ basketball team was playing Woodland High School, someone was in the locker room stealing items from a number of Wave players’ lockers, including cash, cell phones and an iPod, according to the report.
Security cameras showed a possible suspect enter the locker room, but the locker room itself has no surveillance and there’s no way to tell for sure who stole the items, the report says.

Ugh-a
Less than a month after the real University of Georgia mascot, Uga VII, died unexpectedly, a statue version of the white English bulldog disappeared from a Summerville woman’s front porch.
The concrete statue, which was 18 inches tall and valued at $150, was last seen by its owner just after 5 p.m., Dec. 10, according to a police report.
By 7:20 p.m. it was gone. She walked around her apartment complex, but it was nowhere to be found, the report says.
Perhaps the culprit was a disgruntled Georgia Tech fan, still angry over the Bulldogs upset win over the Yellow Jackets on Nov. 28.

Student caught with knife after orange toss
While in custody for throwing an orange at his teacher Dec. 3, a student at Givhans Alternative School was caught with contraband that included a knife, according to a Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office report.
Witnesses said the student threw the orange at the teacher, hitting her in her back as she was busy helping another student, the report says. He told them he was going to “chop the teacher” with the fruit, they said.
Despite this, and the fact that he was in possession of several oranges during class, the student “vehemently” denied throwing it at the teacher, the report says. He later said he threw the orange as a joke and didn’t intend to hit her.
He was taken into custody on a simple assault charge. The school resource officer discovered the knife along with two other pieces of contraband — a cigarette lighter and a folded bandanna “carried in such a manner as to indicate gang affiliation,” the report says.
He had an “attitude of indifference,” the report says, and he told the deputy he was no stranger to law enforcement. He was taken to jail and later released to a parent.
