Herbert L. Singleton, 24, of Atlanta, is in Hill Finklea Detention Center after Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested him in connection with a Sunday morning armed robbery of the Kentucky Fried Chicken on U.S. 17 A near Sangaree.
According to BCSO Public Information Officer Dan Moon, a man entered the restaurant about 8:30 a.m. Sunday, ran behind the register and snatched an undetermined amount of money from the register.
However, on his way out, his gun went off, harming no one, and he slipped and dropped most of the money.
Deputies arrested him a short time later and transported him to Hill Finklea Detention Center.

Not my credit card
A Summerville woman reported that someone tried to apply for a credit card in her husband’s name. They received a letter from Discover card saying someone had attempted to do this but the card was not issued because Discover could not verify the address. A few days later, Capitol One also issued them a letter saying someone had tried to open a credit card in their name but again the address was suspicious.
The woman said in 2007 she applied for an insurance policy. The company sent someone out to conduct a blood test. Later, the company sent her a letter saying the contractor who had come to the house to do her blood work had been caught misusing clients’ personal information. The woman believes this medical contractor is responsible for the attempted identity thefts.
The case is under investigation.

No brotherly love
A woman who was with her son at Trident Hospital while he was recovering from a gunshot wound called police when she said she saw the man who shot her son – his brother.
As it turned out, the subject had been in an argument with his girlfriend and grabbed a pistol, then threatened to shoot himself. The victim tried to intervene and take the gun away and it went off, sending a bullet through the victim’s lower abdomen.
The victim said he did not want to prosecute and that the situation had been an accident.
However, the suspect was taken to the ER for voluntary commitment for having suicidal thoughts.
