We may have witnessed a major turn in the country’s political leanings during this past Tuesday elections. Electing a Republican Governor in Virginia sent a message, but the message was stronger when a Republican Governor was elected in the almost always Democrat voting state of New Jersey. The GOP was quick to step forward to take the credit. However, if they truly believe they were the primary factor in these races they do so at their own peril. I believe the results were a clear demonstration of the GOP conservative base joining forces with the Tea Party and 9-12 groups to send the GOP as well as all politicians a message. The message to the GOP is to get back to the conservative principals this nation was founded on and we will support you. I share the opinion with many conservatives that the GOP leadership is out of touch with its members. All it will take to gain our support is a return to the party platform that promotes traditional Republican values of less government, lower taxes, individual liberty, property rights, etc. I speak not as a far right radical. I am the elected representative from Berkeley County that serves on the State GOP Executive Committee. I am only stating what most conservative members of the party think. We are asking the State and National GOP leadership to return to the principles and ideology we represent or get out of the way and allow others to do it.
