It looks like the Green Wave basketball team will have its point guard back for the second half of its region schedule.
Senior Aaron Jiles returned to practice this week after sitting out nearly two months due to an injury. Summerville coach Greg Elliott is hoping Jiles will pick up where he left off last season and in the process spark the team.
“He’ll be our ball handler,” Elliott said. “Now it’s going to be his job to mange the team out on the court. He’s excited and with him being a senior I’m sure he plans on packing everything he can into these final few weeks.”
Last season, Jiles averaged 11.6 points, 3.9 assists and 4.5 steals per game. He was vital to the team’s run into the playoffs.
Summerville wrapped up the first half of this year’s region schedule last week with a win in Beaufort to improve its region record to  2-2. Elliott is hoping the return of Jiles will make his team even more competitive.
“We got back to .500 so now we are going to have to work to stay there,” Elliott said. “The second round of region play starts (tonight).”
The Wave travels to Colleton County for that game. Summerville then hosts West Ashley Feb. 2 and Beaufort Feb. 5 before closing its regular season with a game at Fort Dorchester Feb. 11.
On Tuesday, Summerville earned a 49-43 road win over Stratford to improve its overall record to 10-9. Mario Pendarvis led all scorers with 27 points while J.D. Tucker chipped in 10 for the Wave. David Anderson led Stratford with 14 points.
The Summerville girls dropped a close one at Stratford, falling 37-39. Sarah Montei led the Wave with 12 points and Whitney Palmer added 10. Tiffany Addison led Stratford with 16 points and Caroline Gilbert added 11.
Summerville dropped to 6-8 with the loss. The Lady Wave is 2-2 in region play.
