The Ashley Ridge girls’ basketball team had a big night on Saturday.
The Lady Swamp Foxes downed Baptist Hill 40-36 on the road to pick up its second win in the program’s short history.
“The girls played great defense,” Ashley Ridge coach Chi-Chi Hurley said. “Baptist Hill beat us last time by 16 points. I told the girls they could go toe-to-toe with this team and come out on top if they really wanted it.  Well, they really wanted it.  They hustled, ran the fast break, talked, and held one of their best players to only 2 points after she scored 17 on us last time.  I am very proud of them.”
Brianna Boyd led the charge with 16 points. Jessica Nettles added 12 while Savannah Lax had 7, Ericka Millen had 3 and Aasima Walker had 2.
The team’s first win of the season came four days before when it defeated Cane Bay at Ashley Ridge. On Friday, the Swamp Foxes host fellow Region 6-AA opponent Woodland.
