The Pinewood girls’ soccer team won the Lady Bearcat Invitational tournament Saturday at Brookland-Cayce High School.
The Lady Panthers opened play on Friday night with a 1-0 win over the host Lady Bearcats. With the game scoreless midway through the second half, the Lady Panthers were awarded a penalty kick that senior Kimrey Angotti-Smith converted for the lone tally of the game. Marisa Patton got the shutout in goal, but was forced to make several key saves late in the game to preserve the victory.
Saturday saw the Lady Panthers in the semi-final game against Woodruff high school. The Lady Panthers got on the scoreboard late in the first half when Kelsey Orvin scored off of a rebound from a shot by Courtney Angotti-Smith, who got her own goal later in the game. Francesca Kassing also scored as the Panthers earned a 3-0 win and a berth in the championship game.
Pinewood took on Woodbridge College, a high school team from Ontario Canada, in the finals. The Lady Panthers dominated the game from start to finish and earned a 5-0 victory.
Megan Fish, who had an outstanding game for the Lady Panthers, opened the scoring midway in the first half.  Kimrey Angotti-Smith added three goals and Taylor Darling scored the final goal for the Lady Panthers.  Pinewood’s domination of the game was so complete that Patton only had to make two saves.  
Selected to the All Tournament team were Courtney Angotti-Smith, Megan Fish, Kelsey Orvin and Taylor Darling.  Kimrey Angotti-Smith was named the tournament MVP.  With the wins, the Lady Panthers improved their record to 15-1. The Lady Panthers have two more weeks of regular season play before starting the playoffs.
In tennis, the Panthers dropped a close match to Hammond 5-4 late last week. Picking up singles wins for the Panthers were Jacob Cumbie and William Wert. Winning doubles teams were Cumbie and Austin Shepard and Wert and Davis Craig.  The Panthers were without one of their starters, Adam Elliget, who was playing a tournament in Florida.  
In JV boys’ soccer, the Panthers recorded an impressive 4-2 win over Summerville. Thomas Ferro and Justin White each scored two for the Panthers.
