The 2009 Miss Summerville High School Scholarship Pageant will be held Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Summerville High School auditorium at 7 p.m. The young lady crowned as Miss SHS 2009 will receive a $1500 scholarship to the college of her choice. This year’s pageant theme is “A Red Carpet Rendezvous.” The general atmosphere has been described as an energetic medley of old and new Hollywood. It gives the girls the opportunity to parade their unique sense of Hollywood glamour and style on the red carpet. Thirty-seven girls will compete in the following divisions: Interview, Red Carpet Attire and Formal Wear. Miss SHS contestants will perform a talent and answer an on-stage interview question as well. The evening will also feature Miss Summerville High School 2008’s Carissa Benson, who will crown this year’s royalty and perform a monologue during the judge’s deliberation. Special performances feature the musical talents of local artists Allison D. Esselman and Sarah R. Callahan. Callahan also choreographs the evening’s opening dance number and movement. Pageant Director, Mary Lowery, says, “This has been a thrilling experience for me. It has been a privilege to work with such an amazing group of young women. It will be a night of fun, music, beauty and talent!” Tickets will be on sale beginning Jan. 26 at the high school. The price of admission is $8 for general admission, $5 for students and faculty; children under five receive free admission. Sponsorship donations can also be made towards the Miss Summerville High School Scholarship Fund by calling the school or contacting the pageant director.
