James Watkins Berry, Sr., and Hazel Reed Lloyd Berry of Summerville are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on September 2, 2010, with a family dinner.  The Berrys were married Labor Day weekend of 1950 at Roslyn Presbyterian Church, Long Island, NY.   Their wedding followed a brief courtship that began on Fourth of July when they met on a blind date.   Nine days later, Jim proposed, and in eight weeks they were married.
Mr. and Mrs. Berry have lived in Summerville since 1963.  After 42 years of residing at “The Teacherage” on West Fifth South Street, they moved to The Village at Summerville in 2007.  Their children include Jim Berry, Jr., and his wife, Beth, of Summerville; Pamela Kacpura and her husband, John, of James Island; and Chris Berry and his wife, Rita, of Summerville.  Grandchildren include Tripp, Cathryn, Christopher, and Hannah Berry and Savannah Kacpura.
Mr. and Mrs. Berry are members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and have faithfully volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Second Chance for many years.
Their continuing love and dedication to one another are evidence of a strong marriage, and they provide an excellent role model to their children, grandchildren and all who know them.
