Panthers eye region baseball crown

The Pinewood baseball team picked up a big region win Tuesday, defeating the Eagles of Hilton Head Christian Academy 4-0.
Laquan Gilliard (3-0) picked up the win on the mound, tossing six innings of no hit ball.
Austin Heflin finished for Gilliard and completed the no hitter by not allowing any hits in the seventh inning.
Taylor Wall went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. Trevor Reeves went 2-for-3 and Alex Doucet also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Panthers are now 16-6 overall and 9-0 in the region.
After press time the Panthers traveled to Northwood for the final region matchup of the year.
The Panthers took a one game lead into that game having defeated the Chargers earlier this season.
In softball, Pinewood climbed to one game under .500 with a 1-0 win over Thomas Heyward.
Sam Willcott (5-9) tossed a one-hitter  and had seven strike outs to secure the win.
The Lady Panthers scored the decisive run on a triple by Katie Hickok.
The Pinewood girls’ soccer team continued its roll.
Monday the team defeated Hammond 6-0 and Tuesday it handled the Lady Chargers of Northwood by a score of 8-0.
Courtney Angotti-Smith picked up another hat trick on Tuesday, pushing her season high goals scored total to 40.
Also scoring for the Lady Panthers were Kimrey Angotti-Smith, Megan Fish, Maren Austgulen, Tess Miller and Megan Chase.
The Lady Panthers are currently 17-1 overall and 8-0 in the region.
Next week they will face two tough games, at Hilton Head Prep, and home against Hilton Head Christian.  
The Panther tennis team did not fare well as it dropped a match to Bishop England by a score of 6-1.
The lone Panther point came from the No. 2 doubles team of Davis Craig and Austin Shepard.
The Panthers have one regular season match remaining against Porter Gaud before starting the state playoffs.
