The Pinewood girls’ soccer team captured their first region title with a 3-1 win over Hilton Head Prep Thursday.
The Panthers needed only one win in the final two games to wrap up the region, but the Lady Dolphins were in a struggle with Hilton Head Christian for the second playoff spot and desperately needed a win to avoid a playoff game with the Lady Eagles on Saturday.
The game turned out to be a physical, hard-fought match but the Lady Panthers were able to prevail behind two goals by Courtney Angotti-Smith and one by Megan Fish.
The Lady Panthers wrapped up their season on Friday with a match at Ashley Hall.
With the Lady Panthers resting most of their starters, the Ashley Hall Panthers were able to come away with a 3-0 victory.
The Panthers finished the regular season 20-2 overall and 9-1 in the region. They opened play in the SCISA state playoffs yesterday with a home match against Heathwood Hall.
The results where not available at press time, but if the Panthers prevailed they will play home again in the semifinals Thursday.
The SCISA state championship games are scheduled for Saturday at Porter Gaud.
