Khristopher McGill, eighth-grade student at River Oaks Middle School, has qualified to compete at the state-level National Geographic Bee to be held April 3.
After winning the school’s geography bee Jan. 9, eighth-grade social studies teacher Bernadine Ford administered the National Geographic Bee qualifying exam to McGill and sent it to the national offices of the National Geographic Bee.  He received notification March 2 that he had qualified to represent River Oaks Middle School at the state-level bee.
One winner from each state and territory will advance to the national competition, which will be held May 19 and 20 at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The final round of the 2009 National Geographic Bee, featuring Alex Trebek, will air on the National Geographic Channel on May 20 and then on public television stations, produced by National Geographic Television.
