A half-price “CAT”astic Weekend will be held on August 6-8, 2010 at the Frances R. Willis SPCA located at 136 Four Paws Lane in Summerville.
“This weekend will allow cats and kittens to find loving and forever homes at half the regular adoption price,” said Wendy Seay, Shelter Manager. “Our shelter is full to capacity with cats and kittens that need loving homes. The SPCA is helping out families during this trying economic time by cutting the adoption price in half for this special weekend.”
The SPCA will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Adoptions stop at 4:30 p.m. each day. The half-price adoption fee of $65 includes spay/neuter surgery, rabies shot, vaccinations, feline leukemia/AIDS test, a microchip and a vet visit.
Potential adopters will have the opportunity to visit with their furry bundle of joy in the Cat Room before making a decision about adoption. There are toys, treats and chairs in the room to help potential adopters get to know their new best friends, Seay said.
“CATastic Weekend will serve two purposes ---helping us find loving and forever homes for the cats and kittens we have now and it will make room for cats and kittens entering the SPCA,” said Seay. “Over the past three months, we’ve seen about 300 animals coming into the shelter each month. We are at or beyond capacity most days, resulting in the euthanizing of some animals.”
The SPCA received 3,800 animals in 2009 and adopted out about 33 percent of the cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies it received.
To adopt a cat or kitten, a potential adopter should bring a photo ID to the shelter and must be over 18 years old. Leashes, collars, and cat carriers are available for purchase at the shelter as well.
