Robert (Bob) C. Smith, 61, of Summerville, SC, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Trident Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 3 o’clock at Parks Funeral Home Chapel and burial followed at Rudd Branch Cemetery. Born on December 21, 1948 in Moncks Corner, SC, Bob was the son of the late Casper Smith and Lena Harvey Smith. He is a graduate of Berkeley High School and he received his Bachelors Degree from USC and his Masters Degree from The Citadel. Bob had a passion for teaching his favorite languages, Latin and French, which was instilled in him by Mrs. Elizabeth C. Kennedy, his high school Latin teacher. Bob is a retired professor at the College of Charleston and retired teacher from Dorchester, Charleston, and Orangeburg County schools. Bob was also a member of the Sons of the Confederacy. He was a loving brother and friend.
Surviving are two sisters, Carolyn Smith Knight and Frances Smith Sweat, both of Summerville; two nephews, Joel D. Sweat of Summerville and Ronald Lee Clontz, Jr. of Decatur, GA; and a niece, Ashley E. Knight of Goose Creek, SC.
