Summerville Music Club presents The Johnson Children
[Subheading]
Thursday, January 26, 2012
The Johnson children will perform for the Summerville Music Club on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 206 Central Avenue. They will perform a collection of classical pieces played on piano, with a string quartet and harp.
The children are Emilee 16, playing piano, harp and violin; Kyle 15, piano and recorder; Davis 12, piano and viola; Clara 11, violin and piano; Luke 8, cello; and Philip 5, violin. Each has begun studying an instrument from the age of 4 and has continued adding additional instruments and choir over the years. They enjoy playing ensembles together for the Oakbrook Rehabilitation Center, the MS Support Group, the Presbyterian Village and Senior Groups. They have donated time for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League to play for their fundraisers in different venues. They have received scholarships from the Summerville Music Club, Charleston Music Club, CSOL and Louise B. Mathis Music Fund. These awards have assisted with private lessons and attendance at BJU Summer Music Camps. They have also participated in the Charleston Music Teachers Achievement Day and have received honor awards to perform in Charleston area historic churches.
Their music teachers are Mrs. Alison Harvey teaching violin and viola, Mrs. Jacquie Jones teaching piano, and Mrs. Jessica Ray the harp teacher.
All six children are homeschooled by their parents Kurt and Vicki Johnson. They enjoy listening and encouraging their children in sacred and classical ensemble playing. Their goal is to glorify God with the music He has given them.
The concert is free and open to the community. Donations will be accepted for the Summerville Music Club’s summer music camp scholarships.
