A Summerville man remains in jail on five counts of kidnapping after he allegedly held five people at gunpoint in an apartment complex office Monday morning.
Police say 55-year-old Jerome Robinson entered the Somerset Apartments complex office at about 8:50 a.m. Monday with a 30/30 rifle, chambered a round, and said, “Someone is going to get hurt.”
He then ordered one of the victims, who was standing at the door, back into the office, and instructed her to call the police.
The victim said Robinson appeared very upset and stated several times he was “at the end of his rope,” according to the report.
A responding officer received information via dispatch that the subject was leaving the premises without the rifle and saw Robinson leaving the office. The officer immediately made contact with him, placed him in handcuffs, and put him in a patrol car, then called in a warrants check and found Robinson had an outstanding warrant against him from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.
While being transported to the Dorchester County Detention Center, the officer and Robinson began to talk about the incident. According to the report, Robinson allegedly stated that since he had to go to jail, nobody wanted to help him, and he still had to get somebody, he was going to kill whoever was to be his cellmate. Robinson further stated that nobody was going to listen to him until he did something stupid, according to the report.
A magistrate set a $500,000 surety bond on Robinson during a bond hearing Tuesday. Robinson remains lodged in the Dorchester County Detention Center.
