On Saturday August 28th, The Dorchester County Democratic Women volunteered their time to serve members of the community a tasty meal at The Palmetto House Homeless Shelter and Soup Kitchen just off of Highway 78 on 107 Elks Lodge Lane.
The volunteers giving their time that day at The Palmetto House included President Margaret Goodwine, Barbara Blackwell, Christine Jackson who is a nominee for State House in District 98, Krystina Deren and her grandchildren Coley and JJ.
All of the volunteers showed up early, wearing smiles and eager to set up and display the delicious meals that they had prepared. Some of the mouth-watering meals consisted of Krystina Deren’s cold pasta with chicken and veggie salad, Margaret Goodwine’s bread pudding topped with a fresh helping of vanilla pudding, and last but not least some refreshing sweet southern tea to wash it down. Dessert was scrumptious fudge brownies.
It was clear that everything served was made from the heart with care.
Volunteer Krystina Deren  made it known that all of the meals being served consist of nothing but wholesome ingredients to nourish the minds and bodies of all its recipients.
The Dorchester County Democratic Women have been serving meals at The Palmetto House for more than 2 years, every fourth Saturday.
After asking the volunteers their reason for volunteering their free time on such a beautiful Saturday morning they replied simply that “it is a way to give back and serve our community.”
