Newington extended its winning streak in the Coastal Carolina Aquatic Association Tuesday.
The Tiger Sharks defeated the Jewish Community Center 432-93 to improve to 5-0.
Entering action July 2, the Tiger Sharks were the only undefeated team in the league.
With only two meets remaining in the regular season, the Tiger Sharks could clinch the Blue League championship July 7 with a win over Crowfield.
With a 4-2 record, the Crowfield Killer Waves are currently tied with Fort Johnson for second place in the league.
The Tiger Sharks’ faced the Federal Armed Services Team (3-3) July 2 after press time and are scheduled to swim against the Triton Force Swim Team (1-3) July 9.
Newington will wrap up its season by competing with the other 21 Lowcountry teams during the association’s annual City Meet championship to be held at the Jewish Community Center July 19-21.
This year’s race for the Red League championship, the most coveted title for the association’s three leagues, is heated.
Snee Farm, the long-time City Meet champion and perennial league power, was upset by Parkshore June 25.
That left Snee Farm, Parkshore and Coosaw Creek, last year’s Red League Champ, all with a 5-1 record and a loss in the league entering action July 2.
The Coosaw Crocs lost to Snee Farm 264-273 June 23, but won handily over Parkshore June 20 by a 373-164 margin.
Daniel Island (4-1) also only has one loss in the league, but had to face Coosaw after press time July 2 and still has a meet against Parkshore scheduled for July 6.
The Ashborough team sits at 2-4 with one of its wins coming against league opponent Shadowmoss, which is also 2-4.
Hobcaw (5-1) faced Longpoint (4-2) July 2 after press time with first place in the White League on the line. Both teams still have league meets remaining.
Pine Forest (0-6) entered action against the Country Club of Charleston (1-5) July 2 looking for its first win of the season. The team is scheduled to face Daniel Island July 7 and Hobcaw July 9.
