Two charged with interstate transportation of stolen property

Two Summerville men have been arrested for transporting stolen heavy construction equipment across state lines. Acting United States Attorney Kevin F. McDonald said Austin Davis, 26, and Allen Miller, 26, both of Summerville, have been charged in a four-count federal indictment with Interstate Transportation of Stolen Property, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2314. The Indictment alleges between January and May 2009 that Davis and Miller unlawfully transported construction equipment reported stolen from work sites in South Carolina to Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, and North Carolina, knowing that the equipment had been stolen. The maximum penalty that Davis and Miller could each receive is a fine of $250,000 and imprisonment for ten years. Arraignments for both men will be scheduled alter this month. McDonald said the FBI investigated the case and he has assigned it to Assistant United States Attorney Rhett DeHart of the Charleston office for prosecution.
