SC cops' response to call of armed man criticized
Published Friday, November 20, 2009 8:09 AM
WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) — Some residents are upset about the police response to a report of a man with a gun in a s South Carolina town where three people were shot to death earlier this month.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported six police cars responded to a 911 call Thursday that a man had a gun on a street in Walterboro. Officers found a teen playing with a plastic gun. Police Chief Otis Rhodes says the gun looked realistic.

Rhonda Fair lives on the street and says officers need to look outside the neighborhood for those responsible for the Nov. 9 shooting that killed three people and injured six others. A 20-month-old girl was among those killed.

Rhodes says officers understand the tension in the neighborhood but says officers will respond quickly to any report of an armed person.
