SC legislators could ban texting while driving
Published Wednesday, January 27, 2010 8:04 AM
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina legislators will consider a bill that bans texting while driving and chatting in the car with a hand-held phone.

The bill is up for debate on Wednesday in a House Education subcommittee.

It would ban drivers from sending text messages or using a hand-held cell phone.

The bill says handsfree devices are OK.

Anyone convicted of the misdemeanor crime could be fined up to $100.

if they decide to do that, they will have to give citizens the power to ticket too. every time i go through moncks corner i see at least two cops on the phone goin down the road talkin. Are they more coordinated than the rest of us or what? how about lead by example. taht would be a great start

It is a shame that so many people have to text meaningless messages that could not wait until they got home. Sit at a redlight and watch how many people making the turn are on their phones!

That they have to pass laws to replace common sense......people should be able to figure out that texting while driving is dangerous....and talking on the phone is also....even hands free. Your hands may be on the wheel but your mind is on the phone call and not on driving....
