The sight of young men dying will stay with army veteran Philip Canon forever. Telling his story from a wheelchair, Canon recalled his 34 years of service including taking part in the invasion of Normandy during World War II.
Canon’s story and others like him serve as a reminder why Veterans Day is so important considering the sacrifices men and women in the military have made and continue to make to protect our freedoms.
Air Force pilot Steve Mayeux said it best to a group of Navy Seals returning from Afghanistan. “Guys like me are grateful for guys like you because you do the job that very few of us could do or would be willing to do.”
I had the opportunity to sit and listen as area veterans told their story of life in the military. Their stories are a reminder of the importance of Veterans Day. Watch and listen to the slideshow for the veteran's stories in their own words.
