A glitch in the card reader that decodes the election results is holding up the publishing of precinct totals tonight. So far none have been released.
But in Colleton County, which has a piece of the Patsy Knight/Ed Carter race, the results are in. Three of the three precincts involved show 55.6 percent of the vote for Ed Carter and 44.4 percent for Patsy Knight. The totals are 541-432.
Earlier this evening, polls closed, darkness fell, but some still waited to vote at several larger precincts. Dubose Middle was slowly winding down after 7 p.m. while Alston, Bethany and Knightsville were closed up tight on time at 7 p.m.
Turnout overall was running well over 50 percent with some precincts as high as 75 percent before poll closings.
