The Summerville Christmas parade drew a record crowd this year with balmy weather turning the first half of the parade into a summer event. Late in the parade light rain showers dissipated part of the crowd, but the dedicated stayed on to see the man of the hour: Santa Claus.
The annual parade, sponsored by Summerville DREAM and the Summerville Fire Department, featured 109 entries from Cub Scouts and retirement homes to martial arts masters and beauty queens.
Three awards were given in this year’s parade: Best Adherence the Theme went to The Village at Summerville. Winner of Most Creative was awarded to Dorchester County Career and Tech Center and Most Popular went to Rose Court Farms. An honorable mention was given to the Swamp Fox Chapter of the U.S. Submarine Veterans which drew large applause from the crowd.
Judges for the parade were DREAN Board Chair Faith Cuda and board members Tim Hamilton and Judy Watts.
An estimated 10,000-plus attended the parade this year.
