COLUMBIA - Mr. Robert Joseph “Bob” Brown, formerly of Summerville, S.C., passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012. The family will be holding a private service at the beach.
Born in Newark, N.J., he was a son of the late Robert A. and Ruth Landon Brown. Bob was in the U.S. Navy when he met his soul mate, Nancy. After a whirlwind two-month courtship, they were married in June 1964, and eventually settled in Summerville where they raised their two children, Debra and Robert. After retiring from the Navy as a Chief Navigator on submarines in 1976, Bob became a mail carrier and happily delivered mail to residents of Summerville for many years…usually with a smile and quick-witted jokes. After retiring from the post office, Bob and his wife kept busy traveling the country and abroad. Recently Bob and Nancy moved to West Columbia to be nearer to their daughter.
Lifelong Catholic, devoted father and husband, Bob will be missed and is survived by his beloved wife of forty-eight years, Nancy Freeman Brown; daughter, Debra and her husband, Ronald Rzepkowski of West Columbia; son, Robert William Brown and his wife, Lilia of Suwanee, Ga.; three grandchildren, Jules William Rzepkowski, Mia Luana Brown, Sienna Thais Brown; and sister, Jean Clark of Herndon, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, PO Box 2786, Columbia SC 29202.
Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
