The Fort Dorchester wrestling team didn’t earn many bonus points Wednesday but did win nine of 14 weight classes at Ashley Ridge.
The Patriots improved to 3-0 in Region 8-AAAA with a 36-22 victory over the Swamp Foxes, who dropped their second region match of the season.
Tyre Wright won the 113-pound class by pin fall and Dallis Brown earned a pin at 132 for the Patriots. The only other bonus points for he Fort were the result of an Ashley Ridge forfeit at 195.
“I feel we could have wrestled better, but we got the win and that is important this time of year,” Fort Dorchester coach B.D. LaPrad said. “Some of our younger guys did well. We moved Jacob Hutchinson and Joseph Hutchinson up a weight class and that worked out well.”
For Ashley Ridge, Tyler Moore won the 220-pound class with a pin and Ben Whitney earned a major decision at 106. Zach Armstrong earned six points for the Swamp Foxes when the Patriots forfeited that match.
The Patriots’ next region match is scheduled for Jan. 16 when they will host Beaufort. The Fort will then wrap up its region schedule with a match at Summerville Jan. 23.
Ashley Ridge hosts Bluffton Jan. 15 and then closes its region schedule at Beaufort Jan. 23.
