Green Wave places second, Patriots fifth in Lexington

The Green Wave and Patriot wrestling teams fared well during the 2013 U.S. Military Duals held Jan. 4-5 at Lexington High School.
Summerville advanced to the championship match of the tournament, but had to settle for runner-up honors as it fell 38-23 to Lexington. The Green Wave went 3-0 in its pool, which also included White Knoll, Fort Mill and Carolina Forest.
Summerville’s Gavin Prkins went 6-0 during the tournament, notching four wins by pin fall and two by decision in the 126-pound weight class. He was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler for the light-weight classes (106-145).
Other Green Wave grapplers who won their match in the title match are James Sass (106), Chad Wood (152), Anthony Collins (160) and Kyle Sullivan (170).
Eastside defeated Beaufort in the third-place match and Fort Dorchester defeated Wando in the fifth-place match. West-Oak, White Knoll, Fort Mill and Dutch Fork rounded out the Top 10 for the tournament.
The Patriots went 2-1 in their pool, which also included Eastside, North Myrtle Beach and Irmo. Fort Dorchester defeated Wando by a 31-29 margin in its final match.
Notching wins for the Fort in the match were Trevour Johnson (126), Charles Washington (138), Logan Encarnacion (145), Cato Jenkins (160), Jacob Hutchinson (170), Joseph Hutchinson (182) and Quandre Chisolm (195).
