Lady Swamp Foxes notch wins

The Ashley Ridge girls’ basketball team opened its first home stand of the year with a pair of victories.
The Lady Swamp Foxes earned a 36-27 win over James Island Monday. Ashley Ridge had a fast start, outscoring the Lady Trojans 9-6 in the first period and 7-2 in the second.
“The big thing was our defense,” first-year Lady Swamp Fox coach Chris Shaw said. “It was outstanding. The girls really got after it and ultimately that brought us the win.”
Ashley Tierney led all scorers with 14 points. Olivia Baum added 6 for Ashley Ridge while Brenna Swartz chipped in 5 and both Shelby Daly and Ariel Glover contributed 4. Kelly Cousins scored 3.
Makayla Stanley led James Island with 6 points.
Ashley Ridge improved to 4-1 on the season with the win.
“We’ve got a great group of girls and I’m really pleased with the way they are working,” Shaw said. “We are getting better and better each game.”
Ashley Ridge opened the home stand Dec. 7 with a 42-36 win over Cane Bay. The Lady Swamp Foxes got out to a 14-8 lead in the opening period, but then only managed three points in the second period while yielding 15. The third period was tight and then Ashley Ridge clinched the win with 16 fourth-period points.
Shelby Daly led the Swamp Foxes with 20 points. Baum added 10 while Tierney and Glover both chipped in 4 and Swartz and Cousins scored 2 each.
Makayla Dudley led Cane Bay with 21 points.
The home stand continues as Ashley Ridge hosts Stratford Dec. 14 and Wando Dec. 18.
