Summerville teams suffer first loss

Both Green Wave varsity basketball teams suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday.
The Summerville girls fell 36-34 at Wando as the Warriors avenged a loss to the Wave earlier this season.
Zuri Green posted 12 points for Summerville while Rodnesha Capers added 8. Wando’s Kimberly Smalls led all scorers with 14 points.
Summerville trailed by six points entering the second period but rallied to take an 18-15 lead into the half. However, Wando finished strong to improve to 4-2 on the season. The Wave dropped to 4-1.
The Summerville boys fell 60-46 to the Warriors, who also avenged an early-season loss.
John Jenkins led all scorers with 15 points while Brandon Wilkerson added 14 for Summerville. Richie Alston led Wando with 13 points.
The Warriors got out to a 15-9 lead in the first period but then Summerville went on a 21-5 run to lead at the half. Then Wando outscored the Wave 17-11 in the third and 23-5 in the fourth.
Wando improved to 8-2 on the season while Summerville dropped to 4-1.
The Summerville teams look to get back on track Dec. 14 when they host a rematch with Military Magnet.
