Ashley Ridge splits with Beaufort

One Swamp Fox team earned a big region win Tuesday but another fell to Beaufort in triple overtime.
The Ashley Ridge girls improved to 7-5 on the season with a 3-0 mark in Region 8-AAAA with a 44-18 win over the Lady Eagles in Beaufort.
“I feel like the girls had their most complete game to date,” Ashley Ridge coach Chris Shaw said. “We did a great job applying pressure, forcing turnovers, and getting a lot of fast break opportunities. It was a very solid all-around team effort and the way we need to play as the season moves along. I am very happy about being 3-0 in the region but we know that we must continue to get better.”
The Lady Foxes host Summerville (12-5, 3-0) Jan. 18 and Colleton County (14-2, 2-1) Jan. 22. The games are scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
“Both those games will be a very difficult test for us and we are looking forward to the challenge,” Shaw said.
Beaufort held its own in the first period as Ashley Ridge edged out to an 11-9 lead. But then things started to go South for the Lady Eagles, who were held to a mere two points in the next two periods.
The Lady Swamp Foxes held a 17-11 lead at the half and a 30-11 lead entering the final period. Shelby Daly led the Ashley Ridge shooters with 13 points while Brenna Swartz chipped in eight and Kelly Cousins chipped in six. Olivia Baum, Ashley Tierney, Samara Richardson and Kimberly Cole also scored for Ashley Ridge.
Jordan Fields scored all but seven of Beaufort’s points.
The Ashley Ridge boys (11-5, 2-1) suffered their first region loss of the season as the Eagles (10-5, 1-2) claimed a 61-58 victory.
Ashley Ridge put up a good fight as the Eagles couldn’t secure the victory until the third overtime period. D.J. Stevens finished with a game-high 21 points. Romelo Doctor scored 10 points before leaving the game with an injury in the second half.
Kendrick Colvin led the Eagles with 18 points while Otis McClain added 11 and Jawan Mack chipped in 10.
