YMCA renames Flowertown Run

  • Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Registration is now open for the 2013 Shamrock Shuffle, formerly known as the Flowertown Run.
The 10K Run, 5K Run/walk, and 1 Mile Fun Run, will take place March 16 to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
The Run/Walk was started years ago by Dr. Bob Randall and Doug McElveen and has become a signature event for the Summerville Family YMCA. More than 1,000 runners and walkers participated in the 2012 10K, 5K and one-mile races. The race route takes participants through downtown Summerville, past historic homes and beautiful gardens. Proceeds from the race benefit the Summerville Family YMCA.
Along with the new name of the race, all participants are encouraged to participate in the new Bring on Your Green Contest as the top three best dressed Leprechauns or green runners will be recognized. Other contests include a school challenge for $250 gift donation to their school library courtesy of the Summerville Family YMCA and the Win an iPad contest for high school finishers donated by McElveen Buick Chevy GMC.
The cost for early registration is $25 for the 5K/10K races and $10 for the 1 Mile Fun Run. Early registration will continue through March 8.
Individuals can register for the run/walk by visiting any Summerville Family YMCA location. They can also register online by visiting ymcashamrockshuffle.org or active.com (additional fees will apply if using active.com).
