The Green Wave wrestling team won its match with rival Fort Dorchester Wednesday in convincing fashion.
Summerville won 10 out of 14 weight classes, picking up bonus points in four, to claim a 39-15 victory on its home mat.
Strategy came into play as Chad Wood, the top-ranked wrestler for his class, and Anthony Collins, ranked fourth for his class, both made weight in a lower class and picked up big wins for Summerville. Wood won the 145-pound match by pin fall and Collins earned bonus points for the Wave with a major decision at 152.
Meanwhile, Summerville’s James Sass earned a pin at 106 and the Wave’s Tyler Fachko won by technical fall at 120.
The Wave also pulled off some outright upsets. Marc Templeton earned a 7-5 decision at 134 over DaQuan Buksha, the fourth ranked wrestler for the class. At 184, Austin Walters defeated eighth-ranked Joseph Hutchinson.
Fort Dorchester’s only bonus points came in the heavyweight division, where Tyese McDonald won by pin fall.
However, three of Summerville’s decisions came by only a two-point margin and one was by a one-point margin. Two of the Patriots decisions came by a three-point margin.
