Representative Jenny Horne was named the Behavioral Health Services Association of South Carolina Legislator of the Year for the SC House of Representatives at the 27th Annual BHSA Board Seminar held January 12-13, 2013 at the Kingston Plantation, Myrtle Beach, SC.
This award is given annually to the Representative who supports the prevention, intervention and treatment services of alcohol and substance use disorders. Representative Horne has been active in her community as well as a key supporter of the system within the legislature. The services provided by the local alcohol and drug abuse authorities have proven positive outcomes and allow those affected with this disease to become active, healthy community citizens.
BHSA is comprised of the 33 local alcohol and drug abuse commissions providing services in all 46 counties. These agencies were created by Act 301 of the 1973 code and provide services through the SC Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services.
The mission of BHSA is to support member agencies in the provision of quality behavioral health services that effectively meet the needs of the client and the community. The vision of BHSA is a healthier South Carolina where the negative consequences of substance use and addictions and other behavioral health problems no longer impact the client and community.
