†††††††† The Cultural Arts Alliance of Greater Summerville announces a new
Juried Fine Art Show and Sale – this one, two-dimension art –which includes
painting, drawing and printmaking. This is the first time this genre will be †featured, and the show begins next month.
The current photography show will remain up until Friday February 8
and artists can pick their work on Saturday February 9 from 9am-12 noon.
Work for the upcoming show will be accepted on Friday, March 1, will be
judged over that weekend, hung Monday March 4, and remain until May 17.
This year the opening reception will coordinate with Dream’s Third Thursdays,
†and will be held at Town Hall Thursday, March 21, from 5-7pm. The public is
invited to enjoy the show as well as wine and cheese.
†††††††† The Alliance hung its first show in October 2010, featuring painting.
Attendees have been enthusiastic from the start, but particularly for the initial
event:
“This is a real success!” Beth Wycoff observed.
†††††††† Tim Lowry called it a “Great job!”
†††††††† “It’s phenomenal to look forward to such a good thing. I think there
should be more of them,” Josephine Wakefield told me as I covered that first
show for the Journal Scene .“What an amazing way to spend an
evening looking at beautiful art work.”
†††††††† Both our current Mayor Bill Collins and our Mayor Emeritus Berlin
Myers have not only applauded but also supported this effort. Town Hall
employees have told me over the years how much they enjoy the color and
variety these shows give their workplace. Executive Assistant Bonnie Van
Etten, reports during every show that many visitors from in and out of town
†come by to enjoy the art and share their pleasure with her.
That first juried show featured 20 paintings with pieces hanging on all
three floors. Since that time the Alliance has also featured, in rotation,
photography and quilts, mounting three or four shows each year. In 2012 the
Alliance offered the best of student art and plans are to repeat that this year
giving students and families as well as visitors the chance to see our talented
youth’s work throughout the summer.
†††††††† The exhibit is open to artists over the age of 18 who reside in Dorchester
County, and/or within the town limits of Summerville and adjacent
communities. All work must be original and created by the artist. An artist
contract must be signed and submitted with their entry. Each artist may
submit any number of pieces to be juried and must pay a $10 entry fee per
piece. Winners and other pieces chosen for display will be exhibited. All
accepted art must remain in the exhibit for the entire duration of the show.
†††††††† Full details of show requirements, along with copies of the entry forms
and contracts, can be found online at www.TownHallArtShowcom. Rules and
Entry Forms will be also be available at People Places and Quilts and The
Finishing Touch, both located on Richardson Avenue, later this month.
†††††††† The committee working on this show includes Jane Orenstein, Meg
Skow, Rich Lightfoot, John Lindroth, Jere Young and myself.
†††††††† The committee looks forward to a good response from even more of
our fine artists as this exhibit offers a greater variety of work for the public to
view and more chances for artistic creativity.
