Green Wave teams crush Eagles

  • Thursday, January 31, 2013

The Green Wave basketball teams swept Beaufort Tuesday.
The Summerville boys earned a 69-47 victory at home to improve to 17-4 with a 7-0 mark in Region 8-AAAA. Brandon Wilkerson paced the Wave, posting a game-high 27 points. Timmy Singleton added 16 points for Summerville while John Jenkins chipped in seven.
Jawan Mack and Thomas Parker led Beaufort (12-7, 2-5) with 10 points apiece.
The Summerville girls (17-4, 7-0) earned a 67-31 victory over the Lady Eagles (1-18, 0-7). Heather Chapman led the Summerville scorers with 16 points. Kwanza Murray added 15 while JaKaylah Ravanell added nine and Zuri Green finished with seven.
Both Summerville teams can clinch at least a share of their respective region titles with a win in Bluffton Feb. 1.
On the boys’ side, Fort Dorchester is the biggest threat to Summerville’s better than average chance of clinching the region crown outright. The Patriots have some momentum built after improving to 4-3 in region play with a win over Ashley Ridge Tuesday.
It is more crucial for the Summerville girls to win out as both Colleton County and Ashley Ridge carry a 5-2 region record into the final three games of the regular season.
