The Ashley Ridge girls didn’t mess around Friday.
The Lady Swamp Foxes put their game with Beaufort away early, outscoring the Lady Eagles 11-4 in the first period and 17-3 in the second en route to a 45-26 win.
“We were just looking to push the ball and make sure we would win this one,” Ashley Ridge senior Kim Cole said. “We played with a lot of heart and didn’t take anything for granted.”
Ashley Ridge improved to 11-7 on the season with a 6-2 mark in Region 8-AAAA with the win while Beaufort fell to 1-19, 0-8. Now the Lady Foxes have their sites set on Summerville and Colleton County. With an 8-0 start in region play, Summerville has clinched the region’s top playoff seed and Colleton County also carries a 6-2 region record into play this week.
Ashley Ridge jumped out to a 9-2 lead over Beaufort with buckets from Ashley Tierney, Shelby Daly and Olivia Baum and free throws from Tierney and Brenna Swartz. Early in the second period, Daly put the first set of nails in the coffin, hitting back-to-back three-pointers for a 20-6 Ashley Ridge advantage.
The Foxes carried a 28-7 lead into the half and a 40-11 lead into the final period despite substituting heavily after Daly’s final of three shots sank from behind the arc.
